A Bibliometric Assessment of Global Ice Bucket Challenge (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Research

Title: A Bibliometric Assessment of Global Ice Bucket Challenge (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Research
Authors: Ram, Shri
Abstract: Background: This study is a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the global research trends on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) (popularly known as Ice Bucket Challenge), through related literatures retrieved from SCOPUS multidisciplinary database for the period 1974-2013. Purpose: This study is aimed at analyzing the literature on ALS in terms of document type, language, annual growth, productive country, journal, authors, subject, and most cited articles. Methods: The bibliographic data for this study was retrieved from the SCOPUS database using keywords ‘amyotrophic lateral sclerosis', ‘motor neurone disease', ‘Charcot disease', ‘Lou Gehrig's disease', ‘Ice Bucket Challenge' available in title, abstract, and keyword fields of Scopus database from 1974 to 2013. Results: The literature analysis included 21,750 articles during the period from 1974 to 2013 in different areas of ALS. USA was the most productive country in terms of literature produced, while Neurology was the most productive journal. Conclusion: An intensive awareness created by ‘Ice Bucket Challenge' has attracted masses, and an intensive growth of literature is pertinent on ALS. The results of this study are expressed in terms of growth of literature, output of individual countries, and authors, and will be helpful in collaborative research in future.

Altmetrics Spectrum of Bioinformatics Literature: An Analysis of Most Cited Literature

Title: Altmetrics Spectrum of Bioinformatics Literature: An Analysis of Most Cited Literature
Authors: Ram, Shri
Abstract: Social media is increasingly used for the dissemination of scientific publications
by most science, technology and management (STM) journals. Bioinformatics
is one of the new areas of research emerging in the subject tree. The role of
social media in increasing the awareness of published works in bioinformatics
has not been previously explored. Here, a qualitative analysis of the highest
trending works in bioinformatics along with a correlation analysis with
their social media metrics (altmetrics) is made. A comprehensive search has
been performed for articles related to the bioinformatics using the SCOPUS
Database. Further, a highly-cited article with more than 1000 citations has
been filtered out. Another comprehensive search for bioinformatics articles
using the Altmetric database was conducted. The Altmetric database provides
a total weighted score of all online mentions for an article received on
Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and mainstream media sources. There is a significant
correlation has been found between the patent mention and citations.

Title: Role of Academic Libraries in the Accreditation Process: A Case of Library Science and Engineering Education in India
Authors: Ram, Shri
Abstract: The purpose of this chapter is to analyze the policies and procedures needed for the
accreditation of academic institutions by various agencies. In the case of India, a
number of accreditation bodies visit academic institutions to accredit the programs
and to analyze various facets to assure that standard policies and procedures are in
place. The policies and procedures adopted by various accreditation bodies such as
AICTE, UGC, NAAC, ABET, etc. recognize the courses offered by the institutions,
whereas agencies like Times Higher Education, QS Ranking, NIRF (India) are
playing a key role in the ranking of the institutions. Libraries are always one of the
important criteria for accreditation as well as ranking. The purpose is to identify
the key expectations from these bodies for library science education and libraries
in terms of collection, services, and other important aspects which help to achieve
an institution’s success.

Title: Word Blindness”(Dyslexia): A Bibliometric Analysis of Global Research in Last Fifty Years
Authors: Ram, Shri
Abstract: Dyslexia (commonly known as word blindness) is a cognitive (learning) disorder characterised by an impaired ability to comprehend written and printed words or phrases despite of intact vision. A quantitative literature analysis was carried out on learning disorder - dyslexia from 1967 to 2016 (50 Year) for assessing the global research trends. The emphasis has been given to analyse the research progress in dyslexia using bibliometric methods. This literature-based study was carried out with the documents retrieved from the Scopus. There were 13455 articles on Dyslexia in SCOPUS, distributed in nine document types and twenty eight languages. These literature were grown at 6 per cent annually. Of ninety eight countries, USA shared highest contribution. India ranked 20th in terms of total publication. The most of the research areas are centered towards psychology, learning ability and linguistics
